Gus Atkinson and Tom Helm have been recruited as replacement signings for The Hundred.

Surrey pacer Atkinson will replace Saqib Mahmood at Oval Invincibles while Middlesex’s Helm will cover for Matthew Fisher at Birmingham Phoenix.

Both Mahmood and Fisher have been ruled out of the remainder of the 2022 season after sustaining stress fractures in their backs.

Mahmood took five wickets in seven appearances and is a T20 regular for Lancashire.

24-year-old Atkinson, by contrast, has made just 17 T20 appearances in his career to date and is yet to feature in the 2022 T20 Blast. He was an unused member of Southern Brave’s squad in 2021 after joining as a replacement signing.

Helm, meanwhile, made seven appearances for Birmingham Phoenix last season, taking five wickets and conceding 2.04 runs per ball, but missed out on selection during the 2022 draft.

Fisher joined Phoenix from Northern Superchargers, for whom he made one appearance last season.
