Nottinghamshire allrounder Zak Chappell has joined Gloucestershire on a four-week loan deal. The 22-year-old will be available to represent the club for the remainder of the T20 Blast campaign.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell says Chappell, who has featured in just one Blast match for his side this summer, says the move is an opportunity for the former Leicestershire man to get some experience under his belt.

“With a combination of injuries and competition for places, Zak has missed out on a lot of first team cricket in his first season with us,” said Newell.

“He is, however, a player we believe will do a terrific job for us in all formats over a long period of time.

“That’s why we brought him to the club and this is a good opportunity for him to get a concerted period of T20 cricket under his belt.

“We’re looking for ways to develop him as a cricketer and give him experiences he can learn from."

Chappell, who goes straight into the squad for Gloucestershire's match against Hampshire on Tuesday night, said he is grateful for the opportunity to join up with the Bristol club.

“I’m grateful to Gloucestershire for the opportunity and am looking forward to playing T20 cricket against players I’ve not had the opportunity to face before. The aim is to help the side win matches and qualify for the quarterfinals.

"It’s a young and talented squad looking to achieve something together, and that’s exciting to be part of.”

Gloucestershire head oach, Richard Dawson added: “It’s great to have Zak joining us for the remainder of the T20 competition.

“He will add something different to the team that will help us through to the end of the group stage. If we perform well in our remaining games, we are in with a shout of progressing further and having Zak on our side will help us to do that.”
