Every young woman and girl deserves to belong in cricket - Lord's Taverners

Every young woman and girl deserves to discover her full potential through the sport we love, yet across the UK, 2m fewer women and girls play sport compared to men and boys, and only 33 per cent of children playing cricket are girls

CHARITY FEATURE

This Christmas, you can help change that story by donating to the Lord’s Taverners’ campaign and help them ensure that every young woman and girl feels like they belong in cricket.

The impact the charity’s cricket programmes have had already

Young women like Adeela, who started playing at the age of 8 in the Karachi alleyways around her home in Pakistan, are already benefiting from the impact of Wicketz. After moving to the UK, she found Wicketz in Manchester for her daughters and took on a coaching role at the project.

She credits Wicketz for having a huge impact on young women and girls in her community: “Girls from our background don’t often feel empowered. Getting involved in Wicketz is helping change perceptions of what they can expect from their lives.”

What your donations can help the Lord’s Taverners achieve?

Your donations this Christmas will help the charity create more safe, supportive environments for girls to play cricket, where they not only play cricket, but are empowered to become the best versions of themselves.

Your support is crucial in helping the charity:

  • Increase the proportion of female participants within their cricket programmes from the current 25 per cent to a more equitable level
  • Increase the number of girls-only Wicketz and Super 1s cricket hubs across the UK
  • Provide equipment and coaching for female participants
  • Empower girls through life-skills workshops and adapted cricket sessions
  • Deliver unique girls-only residential experiences through Wicketz and Super 1s
  • Mentor female coaches to inspire the next generation

What your donations could go towards:

  • £40 could cover the cost of hiring a cricket facility venue for a week
  • £180 could provide a year’s worth of cricket sessions to help a female participant
  • £500 could allow five young girls to attend a girls-only cricket residential, bringing together participants from different parts of the country where they can develop key life skills.
