Eve Jones joins Melbourne Renegades as overseas replacement signing

The Central Sparks skipper, who represented Renegades in WBBL07, will fill in for Harmanpreet Kaur at the start of the tournament

Eve Jones has joined Melbourne Renegades as an overseas replacement signing.

The Central Sparks skipper will fill in for Harmanpreet Kaur, who is currently involved in the Asia Cup with India.

Jones representing the Renegades in WBBL07, scoring 236 runs at a strike rate of 99.57 and slotting into the XI at various positions in the top and middle order.

In 2022, the 30-year-old has scored 213 runs at a strike rate of 102.89 for Central Sparks in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and a further 99 runs for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

Kaur also represented Melbourne Renegades last season and was named player of the tournament after scoring 406 runs (three half-centuries) and taking 15 wickets.

The final of the Asia Cup is scheduled to take place on October 15, with Kaur's India taking on Sri Lanka or Pakistan. Melbourne Renegades get their WBBL08 campaign underway on October 16 against Adelaide Strikers at Mackay's Harrup Park.

General manager, James Rosengarten, said: "We're pleased to have Eve returning to the Renegades. She was a strong contributor for us on the field last year and offers flexibility with where she can slot into our batting order.

"Eve already has great relationships within our group and an understanding of the way we want to play as a team, which will help her hit the ground running."
