The Cricketer runs the rule over the individual performances of both sets of players during England's ODI victory over Ireland at the Ageas Bowl
Sam Morshead: Willey's smile is back as World Cup heartbreak recovery begins
ENGLAND
Jason Roy (24): A typically fast start by England’s opener before he was pinned lbw. 4
Jonny Bairstow (2): Did not get going, and fell victim to Ireland’s ploy of using spin against England’s openers. 2
James Vince (25): Entertaining, aesthetically pleasing and ultimately not quite satisfying from the Hampshire local. 4
Tom Banton (11): Uncharacteristically slow from the 21-year-old. Out to a giant top edge that ballooned into the keeper’s gloves. 3
Sam Billings (67*): By far the most entertaining batsman on display. Timed the ball beautifully, particularly through the legside. 8
Eoin Morgan (36*): Never looked in any sort of discomfort as he played the rock role alongside Billings. 7
Moeen Ali (0-37 & DNB): Typically reliable with the ball. 5
Tom Curran (1-37 & DNB): A quiet game from the Surrey allrounder. 5
David Willey (5-30 & DNB): Excellent return to England’s team after his World Cup heartbreak. Mixed lines effectively. His first ODI five-for. 9
Adil Rashid (1-26 & DNB): Masterful. An absolute masterclass of limited-overs legspin. His most miserly figures in the format. Increased speed suggests his should issues of last year are fading. 9
Saqib Mahmood (2-36 & DNB): Extracted pace and bounce from the Southampton surface, and well rewarded for his efforts. 7.5
Curtis Campher made a half-century for Ireland
IRELAND
Paul Stirling (2 & 0-1): Chipped up a tame catch to midwicket in the first over. 2
Gareth Delany (22 & 0-4): Started with a bang, taking the attack to the English seamers, but then slapped Willey to Banton at backward point. 4
Andrew Balbirnie (3): Swiped at a wide one from Willey and paid the price. Disappointing dismissal. 2
Harry Tector (0): Scratched around for seven balls before chopping on to Mahmood. An unhappy introduction to the international arena. 2
Kevin O’Brien (22): Got his feet under the table then launched Rashid down the throat of long-off. 4
Lorcan Tucker (0): Trapped on the crease by a Willey inswinger third ball. 2
Curtis Campher (59*): The anchor role his team desperately needed as they tried to squeeze a competitive score out of a diabolical start. 7
Simi Singh (0 & 0-23): Catastrophic run out. Did not get much chance to show what he can do with the ball. 3
Andy McBrine (40 & 1-47): Valuable runs down the order with the bat; managed to keep something of a lid on England's attacking instincts. 7.5
Barry McCarthy (3 & 0-3): Hobbled out of the game after bowling five balls. 5
Craig Young (11 & 2-56): Produced decent pace, and found some movement off the wicket as he claimed the wickets of Roy and Vince. 6.5
