Durham have signed New Zealand batsman Will Young on a short-term overseas deal.
He will be available for the first three games of their County Championship campaign ahead of the arrival of Cameron Bancroft, who will fly to England following the conclusion of Australia’s domestic summer.
Young, a former New Zealand Under-19s captain, made his international debut in December, playing two Tests against West Indies and has since appeared in a pair of one-day internationals against Bangladesh.
In domestic cricket, he has captained Central Stags, with a career first-class average of 42.81.
He described his upcoming stint as “an awesome opportunity to get over to England and be exposed to those conditions and face the new Duke ball”.
He added: “It will be a fun opportunity to meet a new bunch of guys and experience county cricket, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Durham director of cricket Marcus North said: “We’re delighted to have secured the signing of Will Young for the early part of the season.”
Young will arrive ahead of Durham’s opening fixture away at county champions Essex on April 15.
The club’s second overseas spot is being filled by South African batsman David Bedingham.
