Derbyshire have signed allrounder Connor Marshall for the duration of the Royal London Cup.

The 23-year-old, who bowls leg spin, has performed regularly for the county’s second team in recent years and has impressed in club cricket this season for Sandiacre Town.

He was part of the Derbyshire second team that narrowly missed out on qualifying for Twenty20 Finals Day.

Derbyshire head of cricket Dave Houghton said: “We’re keen to add depth to our side for the Royal London Cup and give players the opportunities to impress; Connor represents that.

“He has the ability to make a difference with bat and ball when called upon. He’s been around the group for some time, so he knows the team and what we’re working towards.”

Marshall added: “Whenever I’ve played second XI cricket, the lads have always been brilliant and it’s great to have the opportunity to take that step up and show what I can do.

“I’ve been doing well in club cricket this season, and it’s always nice when your efforts there are rewarded. I’m just really excited to get going now.”

His signing follows the news last week that former West Indies seamer Ravi Rampaul has re-joined Derbyshire for the 50-over tournament.
