David Hussey will step down as Melbourne Stars head coach following the 2022/23 Big Bash.

The former Australia allrounder will take up a new position as head of men's cricket at Cricket Victoria.

Hussey took over as head coach of the Stars ahead of the 2019/20 Big Bash, replacing Stephen Fleming.

The Stars topped the table in his first season in charge before losing to Sydney Sixers in the final. However, he struggled to replicate that success, with the Stars finishing seventh in 2020/21 and sixth in 2021/22.

In his new role with Cricket Victoria, Hussey will oversee all aspects of the state's men's high performance programme.

Melbourne Stars general manager, Blair Crouch said: "We'd like to congratulate David on his appointment as head of male cricket at Cricket Victoria.

"As well as his huge legacy as a player, David has done an outstanding job as head coach of the Melbourne Stars and we've still got a lot we want to achieve this season with David and the team."
