Dan Lawrence surpassed the highest first-class score of his career as England Lions continued their dominance with the bat against a Cricket Australia XI.
On the second day at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart - in a game that does not have first-class status, the Essex batsman moved his overnight score from 103 to 190 – well past the 161 he made as a 17-year-old in only his second ever first-class game for his county against Surrey.
When he finally fell ten runs short of a maiden double hundred, there was still time for Gloucestershire batsman James Bracey to make a fifty of his own, before Craig Overton added a quickfire unbeaten 41 and Lewis Gregory struck 45 as England declared on 613 for 8.
In reply, the hosts reached 146 for 2 at the close, with a wicket each for Gregory and Richard Gleeson.
Lawrence’s landmark innings marked the continuation of a fine tour for the 22-year-old. In two one-day matches that preceded the ongoing four-day clash, he took a four-wicket haul in one, while making an unbeaten half century in the other.
Lawrence was due to take part in the Pakistan Super League that begins on February 20, having signed for Karachi Kings.
However, he has been replaced by West Indies batsman Chadwick Walton, with Lawrence due to remain with the Lions for two more four-day games – against Australia A and a New South Wales XI.
