What is it?

The 11th edition of the Caribbean Premier League.

When is it?

The 2023 CPL starts on Wednesday, August 16 when defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs take on St Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. The final is scheduled for September 24.

Where is it?

CPL 2023 will take place across five countries in the Caribbean.

The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia will host the first six games of the tournament. The competition will then move to St Kitts, where the next six matches will be played at Warner Park.

The following half-a-dozen will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados before the concluding group games move to Trinidad, at the Queen's Park Oval. The Guyana National Stadium will host the last remaining games, including the playoffs and final.

Which teams are involved?

As with 2022, there are six sides participating in the tournament: Trinbago Knight Riders, St Lucia Kings, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Jamaica Tallawahs, Barbados Royals, and Guyana Amazon Warriors.

What's the format?

In the group stage all six teams will play each other twice. Two points are awarded for a win and one allocated in the event of a tie or no result.

The top four teams qualify for the playoffs. Qualifier 1 will see first take on second, with the winner progressing to the final

The third and fourth-placed teams will contest the Eliminator and will face the loser of Qualifier 1 for a place in the final.

What happened last year?

The 2022 Caribbean Premier League was won by Jamaica Tallawahs, who defeated Barbados Royals after successfully chasing down 161 with 23 balls remaining.

Interestingly, the Tallawahs finished the group stages in third place, meaning they went into the Eliminator, went up against St Lucia Kings and won comfortably.

They then faced the losers of Qualifier 1, Guyana Amazon Warriors, whom they again beat in convincing fashion.

Barbados Royals were unlucky; they started the tournament incredibly well, finishing on top in the group stages and winning Qualifier 1. However, the form of the Tallawahs proved too much for the Royals.

Trinbago Knight Riders were disappointing in CPL 2022, finishing the group stages bottom on seven points. St Kitts & Nevis weren't far in front with eight, and both will be hoping for a better campaign in CPL 2023.

Who are the overseas players?

The CPL Draft was held on June 30.

Notable overseas players that will be competing in this year's CPL include: Imran Tahir, Maheesh Theekshana, Chris Green, Roelof Van der Merwe, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rilee Rossouw, Faf du Plessis, Sikandar Raza, Imad Wasim, Dasun Shanaka, Martin Guptill, Mohammad Amir, and Naveen-ul-Haq.

Tahir returns to Guyana Amazon Warriors, du Plessis remains playing for St Lucia Kings, while Wasim, Amir, and Naveen-ul-Haq will fancy their chances of retaining the CPL title with the Tallawahs.
