Ben Green has signed a two-year contract extension with Somerset to keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2023 season.

The 23-year-old allrounder came through the Devon age-group system before joining the Somerset academy in 2013 and making his senior debut for the club three years later.

Green, who has represented England at Under-15s, Under-17s, and Under-19s, captained Somerset during their recent Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, scoring 110 runs and taking eight wickets in five appearances.

He has also made two County Championship appearances in 2021, scoring 91 runs and taking one wicket, and 12 T20 Blast appearances, scoring 85 runs and taking three wickets.

Commenting on his contract extension, Green said: "It’s been a good year for me, and to be given a leadership opportunity was amazing. The club has shown faith in me, and I couldn’t be happier.

"I’m trying not to look too far ahead, and I just want to contribute to the team and carry on enjoying my cricket. Hopefully, we can go on to win the two remaining competitions this season and during the next two years I can go on to establish myself as a first-team regular."

Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, added: "Over the last few years, Ben has developed into a genuine multi-format all-rounder, and he has demonstrated to us that he has got the right temperament, qualities and attributes to also be an effective leader both on and off the field.

"Ben has continued to improve year on year since joining the professional staff and we look forward to that growth continuing and we are delighted that he has agreed to extend his contract for a further two years."
