Foakes joined the club from Essex in 2015 and has committed to the Kia Oval side for the next four years
England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes has signed a new contract with Surrey, keeping him at the county until the end of the 2023 season.
Foakes, who joined the club from Essex in 2015, has committed to the Kia Oval side for the next four years, having made his England bow in all three formats inside the last 12 months.
He began his England career in the grandest style possible, making a century on debut during England’s win at Galle during their series win in Sri Lanka.
Despite losing his place in the Test side and struggling to force his way back in last season – he averaged just 26.13 for Surrey in the County Championship, he added an ODI cap against Ireland and a T20I debut against Pakistan to his burgeoning CV.
Speaking after signing his new contract, Foakes said: “I am extremely grateful to the club for the opportunity to play here for the coming years. Playing for Surrey has allowed me to achieve childhood dreams and I am excited and determined to replicate those in the coming years.”
Foakes will play for Northern Superchargers in the inaugural edition of The Hundred in 2020 after being signed up by Darren Lehmann’s side at the draft.
The decision to pick him up was a nod to his fine glovework – he has claimed 276 dismissals for Surrey and is widely regarded as the finest keeper in the country. He will keep wicket in the new competition to the leg-spin of Adil Rashid and Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
