Surrey wicketkeeper Ben Foakes is poised to make his ODI debut in Ireland next week after replacing the injured Sam Billings in the squad for the game in Malahide.

Billings has been ruled out after suffering a dislocated shoulder while playing for Kent against Glamorgan in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Thursday, and is due to see a specialist on Friday to establish the extent of the damage.

He will not be able to feature for his country against the Irish, leaving the door ajar for Foakes, who now looks likely to get the gloves for the game.

Foakes made his Test debut over the winter, starring behind the stumps and with bat in hand against Sri Lanka, and is widely regarded as the best male wicketkeeper in the English game.

He has been in the runs for Surrey in limited-overs cricket this season as well, making three successive half-centuries against Essex, Sussex and Middlesex.

Foakes will also be part of the England squad for the one-off T20 international against Pakistan in Cardiff on May 5.
