Ben Duckett signs long-term Nottinghamshire contract extension

The England opener, who joined Notts from Northamptonshire in 2018, has agreed a new three-year deal to remain at Trent Bridge

England opener Ben Duckett has signed a new three-year deal with Nottinghamshire.

Duckett had a fine summer in 2022, scoring 1,408 first-class runs to force his way back into England's Test plans six years after his debut.

His form across formats earned him a spot in the England Lions side that faced South Africa and he ended the campaign as part of England's T20I squad in Pakistan, before being given the nod to partner Zak Crawley at the top of the Test order.

"I feel like my game is in a good place, which I suppose is largely the result of so much hard work over the last three or four years working on my technique, and leaning on the support of coaches at Notts," said Duckett, who moved to Trent Bridge from Northamptonshire in 2018.

"I have tried to be as positive as possible, and that approach has been working well for me during the past couple of years. My hunger is there to make big runs, too, not just settle for 70s, 80s, or even hundreds – I really want to take games by the scruff of the neck and put the team in a dominant position."

He is approaching the landmark of 5,000 runs across formats since joining Nottinghamshire.

"The role Notts has played in that has been massive," he added. "I've had the backing to go out and be positive, not fear getting out, and embrace the responsibility I've had at the top of the order."

Duckett averaged 72.28 in the County Championship in 2022, playing a key part in his county's return to the top flight, while he has made a century and two fifties in the ongoing series in Pakistan. He averaged 46.6 in the seven-match T20I series in Pakistan that preceded the T20 World Cup.

"Ben has improved every year since joining us and he is now getting the rewards for all the hard work he has put in over that time," said Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores.

"It was during the winter of 2019/20 that he totally committed to improving his own game and hasn't looked back since.  He has become a key player for us in all formats, reflected in the awards he was won over the last couple of seasons."
