Derbyshire seamer Ben Aitchison will miss the rest of the county season through injury.

Aitchison sustained ankle ligament damage during a training exercise at lunch on day three of his side's Bob Willis Trophy clash with Durham on Monday.

The 21-year-old will now begin a rehabilitation process, and will not feature for the county in the T20 Blast.

Aitchison claimed six wickets for Derbyshire in the Bob Willis Trophy, with best figures of 3 for 55.

Head of cricket, Dave Houghton, said: “This is extremely disappointing for Ben and the club. He’s quickly become an important part of our bowling attack and he has the skills to adapt to the short-format cricket we’ve got coming up.

“We will closely monitor Ben’s recovery and I have no doubt he’ll work hard during his rehabilitation and hopefully come out stronger from the experience.”
