Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan will miss his side's final match of the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup after fracturing his left index finger.

The allrounder sustained the injury while batting in his side's three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Delhi on November 6.

Shakib scored 82 runs off 65 deliveries to help his side chase 280 with 53 balls to spare before undergoing an x-ray on his hand after the match.

He is returning to Bangladesh immediately to begin his recovery.

Bangladesh, who sit seventh in the table with two wins and six defeats, are due to play Australia in Maharashtra on November 11, with qualification for the Champions Trophy at stake.

"Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers," said Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

"He underwent an emergency x-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks."

Shakib scored 186 runs and took nine wickets in seven appearances at the World Cup, missing his side's seven-wicket defeat against India with a left quad injury.

He made the headlines during Bangladesh's victory over Sri Lanka after successfully appealing to have Angelo Mathews timed out as the allrounder was not ready to face his first delivery inside the two-minute window. Mathews argued he needed a new helmet due to a broken chinstrap and later described Shakib's actions "disgraceful".
