Australia opener Beth Mooney named player of the tournament: "I'm a bit lost for words"

The 26-year-old scored 259 runs at 64.75 during her team's run to a fifth title and also finished with 30 fours to boot during a memorable campaign

Beth Mooney paid tribute to her Australia teammates after scooping the player of the tournament prize following victory in the T20 World Cup final over India in Melbourne.

Twenty-six-year-old Mooney finished with the highest number of runs in the competition - 259 runs at 64.75 - and the most fours (30).

That return included top-scoring in the final with 78 to help the reigning champions add a fifth title to their trophy cabinet.

Mooney put on 115 with Alyssa Healy as the tournament hosts set India a record 185 to win the final, a target Harmanpreet Kaur's side never looked like reaching before they were bowled out for just 99.

"I'm a bit lost for words," she said upon being confirmed as the player of the tournament. "It's been an unbelievable tournament, the crowds have been amazing throughout and I just don't have any words.

"We've got a pretty elite line-up so you know if it's not your day then someone else will do it, fortunately [Alyssa Healy] makes my life pretty easy up at the top by hitting as cleanly as she does and I don't have to do a whole lot at the other end!

"We knew what went wrong in that first game against India, we had some good plans and processes that we probably didn't execute them. 

"So to come out tonight and everyone to contribute the way they did with bat and ball and in the field was pretty outstanding. To have the support of 87,000 people behind us is pretty outrageous too."
