Allrounder Ashleigh Gardner is a doubt for Australia's upcoming T20 tri series against England and India after suffering a head injury.

Gardner, 22, was struck on the back of the head by a ball during a practice session on Sunday and subsequently reported signs of concussion, including a headache.

She will need to pass protocols to prove she is fit to feature in the opening game of the series, against England in Canberra on Saturday.

“It’s not ideal,” Australia captain Meg Lanning said.

“She was a little bit unlucky, she probably wasn’t paying as much attention as she should have been unfortunately. But she’s OK. We’re just sort of being precautionary with her and making sure she’s okay.

“There’s steps that she’ll need to go through to be fit for Saturday and she’ll make sure that she’s ready to go.”

The incident comes as Australia prepare for their home T20 World Cup, which is due to get under way on February 21.

Gardner is among the host nation's 15-woman squad for the tournament.
