The six players left out have been replaced by Javed Ahmadi, Afsar Zazai, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Ibrahim Zadran, Yamin Ahmadzai and Naveen-ul-Haq
Afghanistan have made wholesale changes to their ODI and T20I squads ahead of their series against West Indies in India.
As well as Mohammad Shahzad and Aftab Alam, both of whom are banned for off-field reasons, there is no place for either Dawlat Zadran or Hamid Hassan, who shared the new ball at the World Cup. Hashmatullah Shahidi, who has impressed in white-ball cricket for the national side, is also excluded. Noor Ali Zadran and Samiullah Shinwari miss out too.
They have been replaced in the one-day squad by Javed Ahmadi, Afsar Zazai, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Ibrahim Zadran, Yamin Ahmadzai and Naveen-ul-Haq.
Andy Moles, who acted as head coach at the 2015 World Cup, is now the governing body’s chief selector. In naming Afghanistan’s first 50-over squad since the disappointment of the World Cup, he explained that the six alterations to the party that failed to win any of its nine games in England and Wales was a move made with the future in mind.
He said: “These changes are a part of our efforts to promote good sides for the future.” Moles added that the squad for the one-off Test against the same opposition will be announced following the conclusion of the three-match T20I series.
