Mujeeb ur Rahman agrees Middlesex return for 2020 T20 Blast campaign

The teenage spinner claimed seven wickets in 10 outings with the Lord's-based club this summer as they made the quarter-finals for the first time since 2016

18-year-old Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman has signed up to return to Middlesex for next year's T20 Blast campaign.

Mujeeb, who led the county's bowlers by conceding just 7.23 runs from each of his 39 overs during 10 games in 2019, had previously represented Hampshire in 2018 and played starring roles in the IPL and Big Bash.

The bowler will join Peter Handscomb as the club's overseas signings for 2020 after the Australia batsman agreed a two-year deal to replace the Yorkshire-bound Dawid Malan as the club's captain.

"I enjoyed my time at Middlesex so much, so I am very pleased to be coming back," Mujeeb said.

"The whole team, on and off the field, made me feel very welcome and hopefully we can be successful together next season."

Mujeeb is set to be available for the entire group stage of the T20 Blast prior to joining Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. He will also be available for the quarter-finals should the club qualify, as these fixtures are scheduled take place the week after The Hundred concludes.

"It's great to have Mujeeb locked in for the Blast again in 2020," commented head coach Stuart Law.

"His ability to bowl economically in the powerplay is invaluable and he’s a great man to have in the dressing room.

"We look forward to seeing him back at Middlesex next season."
