Mujeeb ur Rahman returns to Middlesex for 2021 Vitality Blast

The Afghanistan spinner is back for a second campaign at Lord's and is available for the group stage and quarter-finals if the club make it

Middlesex have secured the return of Mujeeb ur Rahman as their second overseas player for next year's Vitality Blast.

The Afghanistan spinner played for the club in 2019 having previous represented Hampshire. He will be available for the entire group stage and the quarter-finals if they make it.

Despite being just 19, Mujeeb is a regular on the global T20 circuit and has played for Jamaica Tallawahs, Kings XI Punjab and Brisbane Heat in 2020.

Mujeeb is ranked 18th in the Men's T20 Player Index and second in the ICC's bowling standings in the same format behind fellow-countryman Rashid Khan.

"I had a very enjoyable time at Middlesex in 2019 and I am pleased to be coming back to play, especially at Lord’s," said the teenager, who claimed seven wickets in 10 previous outings for Middlesex. "Let’s hope we can do well."

He joins Peter Handscomb as the club's second overseas player for the new campaign.

Head coach Stuart Law added: "It’s great to have Mujeeb with us again for the Blast. He’s the number two ranked bowler in T20 cricket, behind his countryman Rashid Khan, and brings great variety to our attack. 

"A great bloke to have in our dressing room as well, we are really looking forward to welcoming Mujeeb back next season."
