Matt Henry has been ruled out of the men's Cricket World Cup, with Kyle Jamieson approved as his replacement for the remainder of New Zealand's campaign.

An MRI scan has revealed the 31-year-old suffered a torn right hamstring during the 190-run defeat to South Africa in Pune and will play no further part in the competition.

Jamieson arrived in Bangalore on Thursday (November 2) as cover but has now been formally added to the main group.

"We're gutted for him," head coach Gary Stead said of Henry, who took 11 wickets at 28.63 in seven matches.

"Matt's been a crucial part of our One Day side for a long time and to see him ruled out as we reach the business end of this tournament is immensely disappointing.

"He's consistently been ranked inside the ICC top 10 ODI bowlers for the past few years which is a testament to his class and skills.

"Moreover, Matt's a great team man and we're all going to miss his personality and experience."

Aucklander Jamieson's 13 one-day internationals for the Kiwis have yielded 14 wickets at 36.50 and 83 runs at 20.75.

With Kane Williamson, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson and James Neesham all battling injuries, he is expected to go straight into the team to face Pakistan on Saturday (November 4) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

"We're fortunate to have a player of the class of Kyle waiting in the wings," added Stead.

"His skills and physical attributes always make him a threat with the ball and it's an added bonus he was able to train with us in the first two weeks of the tournament.

"Kyle's had to work really hard to return from two separate back injuries and I know he's really excited about being involved in his first ODI World Cup."
