Melbourne Renegades 122-7, Melbourne Stars 123-4 - Melbourne Stars won by 6 wickets

Melbourne Stars got revenge over rivals Melbourne Renegades in a dominant display at Marvel Stadium.

A captain's innings from Glenn Maxwell saw Stars home with a fine unbeaten 68 from 45 deliveries.

Stars had lost Joe Clarke early; he was unable to add another half century to his excellent recent run but still played perhaps the shot of the night, smashing Josh Lalor for six over midwicket. Beau Webster was on his way back to the pavilion just two balls later after failing to pick Zahir Khan.

Kane Richardson was the pick of Renegades' bowlers, giving nothing away to the aggressive Maxwell, but he was unable to prevent the cross-city side from completing a comfortable victory.

As a result, Renegades return to the foot of the table, with the Stars jumping up to fifth in the standings.

Earlier, Renegades' familiar failings had come back to bite them; they were reduced to 25 for 3, with Shaun Marsh, Nic Maddinson and Mackenzie Harvey falling cheaply.

Young prospect Jake Fraser-McGurk offered some resistance with 32 off 39 deliveries, but wickets tumbling around him made it difficult to accelerate.

Skipper Aaron Finch was the only other man to offer any real contribution for Renegades, making 45 after moving himself into the middle order. He was bowled going for a big heave off Brody Couch.

The leg spin of Adam Zampa and Qais Ahmad, who shared four wickets and conceded just 33 runs in eight overs, kept a lid on the Renegades innings.
