Lancashire v Glamorgan: Match preview
Jimmy Anderson will ramp up his recovery from a calf strain in Lancashire's clash with Glamorgan in the County Championship this week.
Anderson has not been available for his county yet this season but is included in the 13-man squad for the fixture, which is due to start on Thursday.
His last competitive appearance came for England in the fourth Test against India in Ahmedabad in early March.
The 38-year-old will hope to get through the game unscathed as he builds towards the Test summer.
New Zealand are the opponents for England men's first match of the summer, at Lord's on June 2.
In an interview with The Guardian, Anderson said he had sustained his most recent injury issue by switching from running on a treadmill to grass.
He insisted, however, that he has plenty left in his career tank.
“I have never had those thoughts, that I’ve had enough or it’s getting too much,” he said. “It’s probably down to having never had the captaincy. With Cooky, it possibly all added up in the end. I mean, I guess I go into every season asking if I can cope but I’ve started this year as well as any with the ball. There’s no reason I can’t keep going.
“And you draw comfort from seeing people across other sports, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic getting another contract at Milan [aged 39], Tom Brady winning his seventh Super Bowl at 43, Roger Federer [39] overcoming injuries or Chris Thompson qualifying for the Olympic marathon at 40. It makes you think, why should I start slowing down?”
