Only Ishant Sharma, who took five wickets against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, has claimed his scalps in as short a space of time.
On that occasion, he dismissed Mahela Jayawardene, Parthiv Patel, Raiphi Gomez, Brad Hodge and Kedar Jadhav also in just 12 balls.
Russell’s introduction came towards the end of a fine bowling effort from Kolkata, who took regular wickets to prevent reigning champions Mumbai from firing on all cylinders.
Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan were both dismissed in single figures, while only Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav passed 15.
