Somerset seamer Nathan Gilchrist has joined Kent on loan for the remainder of the 2020 season, with an agreement in place for the 20-year-old to join permanently from the end of the campaign.
The right-armer is yet to make his first-class debut but took match figures of 5 for 76 in a pre-season friendly against Gloucestershire in July.
His signing will give assistance to a seam attack currently including former Somerset bowler Tim Groenewald, Harry Podmore, Matt Milnes, Darren Stevens and Ivan Thomas, who has returned to the fold this year following a nightmare spell of injuries.
Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: “We're really pleased that Nathan has agreed to join us at Kent. He is an exciting prospect who we are confident will become a significant cricketer for the county.
“He is a talented young bowler who can bowl some quick spells and we look forward to giving him plenty of opportunity and encouragement to help develop his undoubted potential.”
