Cricket Ireland have received €1.49m through grant schemes awarded by Sport Ireland to help with the financial impact of Covid-19.

Their entire home international summer was wiped out - with marquee men's fixtures against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan postponed. The women's team didn't play a single match either.

Ireland's men did play an away series in England - winning the final ODI and claiming 10 crucial ICC World Cup Super League points. There are ongoing talks about the possibility of a multilateral T20 series in Dubai later in the winter.

Warren Deutrom, Cricket Ireland's chief executive said: "This much-needed funding injection is a recognition of the negative impact that the global pandemic has had at both an international and grassroots level.

“This funding goes some way to acknowledging the scale of loss of our growing commercial revenues as well as our commitment to compliance costs towards Covid preparedness for our 2020 season. We are also reassured by the new funding package announced by the government in the recent budget, and we look forward to further support over coming months as we build towards a still uncertain 2021.

The organisation recently released their 2019 financial report. In the report, they announced a deficit of just under €10,000 despite a cyber-crime attack which saw Cricket Ireland lose $175,000. Poor attendance at the ODI against England in May 2019 and the loss of a host broadcaster didn't help matters either.

Their women are yet to return to action, although a five-match series is due to take place at the end of November against Scotland.
