Cricket Ireland has suspended training sessions for Dublin-based members of the men’s and women’s squads after a player in the women’s squad tested positive for Covid-19.
The positive test was recorded on December 13 and in line with Covid-19 protocols all strength and conditioning sessions as well as skills-based activities have been halted pending further Dublin-based results.
A member of the men’s squad has also been referred for testing and if this test returns negative it is understood that training will be able to resume as preparations for their tour of the UAE continue. Northern Ireland-based players have been cleared to train as normal.
In the statement, Mark Rausa, head of sport science, physiotherapy and medical services for Cricket Ireland added: “The Covid-19 protocols we have in place for indoor training are extremely rigorous, however, we are practising a safety-first and player health approach to our operations, and will update the players as information becomes available about testing outcomes and the hopeful resumption of training as soon as safely practicable.”
