Jadeja took over the captaincy from MS Dhoni at the start of the 2022 IPL but has struggled in the role, winning just two matches from a possible eight and contributing 112 runs and five wickets
Ravindra Jadeja has stepped down as captain of Chennai Super Kings after just eight matches, with his predecessor MS Dhoni returning to the helm.
The allrounder replaced Dhoni as captain at the start of the 2022 IPL but has struggled in the role, winning just two matches from a possible eight to leave CSK ninth in the table.
His own performances have also taken a hit, with the 33-year-old scoring just 112 runs and taking five wickets to date in the competition.
According to CSK’s website, Jadeja relinquished the captaincy "to focus and concentrate more on his game and requested MS Dhoni lead CSK".
Wicketkeeper Dhoni has played 204 IPL matches as captain, winning 121, and led CSK to four IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021) and two Champions League T20 titles (2010 and 2014).
His first match back as captain will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1.
