Ravindra Jadeja will lead Chennai Super Kings during the 2022 Indian Premier League after MS Dhoni stood down as captain.

Dhoni skippered CSK on 190 occasions and helped them capture four titles including in 2021 when they beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

But he will be replaced by allrounder Jadeja, who becomes just the third player to lead CSK, from this season.

Dhoni, 40, will continue to turn play for the franchise.

The 33-year-old Jadeja is in the fifth year of what is essentially his second spell at CSK - after spending two years at Gujarat Lions during their suspension.

His IPL career started at Rajasthan Royals before he moved to Kochi Tuskers Kerala for the 2011 season.

The following year he was picked up by the Super Kings in the 2012 auction for 12 crore (£1.19 million).

He's gone on score 1,324 runs and take 100 wickets in 132 matches and was part of their title wins in 2018 and last season.

In a statement confirming the news, CSK said: "MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team.

"Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond."
