Jofra Archer's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals remains up in the air after being ruled out for a further two weeks follows surgery on a hand injury.

The seamer had a procedure on Monday (March 29) to remove a fragment of glass from the middle finger of his right hand.

Archer sustained the injury after dropping a tropical fish tank in his bath, leading to the cut.

He played through the Test and T20 series against India with the gash but he has gone under the knife this week to assist with his recovery.

Two weeks of rehabilitation will now follow before he can resume training, with a consultant set to review the blow before passing him fit to return.

The IPL begins on April 9, running until the final on May 30. England then face New Zealand in two Tests at the beginning of June.

Should Archer travel to India for the tournament he would be required to undergo a seven-day quarantine period before joining up with the rest of the squad. Royals kick-off their campaign against Punjab Kings on April 12.

A decision over Archer's participation in the T20 franchise competition is expected in due course but is complicated by an ongoing elbow problem that disrupted his winter schedule.

The issue forced him to miss the fourth Test and skip the three-match one-day international series against India.

An update regarding that particular injury will not be provided until he has returned to bowling in a fortnight. Archer has received an injection to treat the injury which has dogged him throughout his international career and The Daily Telegraph reported earlier this month he would miss the entire competition to rest.
