What's the match?

Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Indian Premier League final.

When is it taking place?

The match is scheduled to start at 7.30pm local time (3pm BST) on Sunday, May 28.

Where is the match being played?

The match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Who's got form?

It's first versus second in the 2023 IPL final. Gujarat Titans are seeking to defend their crown while CSK are searching for a record-equalling fifth title.

The Titans topped the regular season table, winning 10 of their 14 matches, but had to take the long route to the final after CSK landed a psychological blow in the first eliminator. MS Dhoni's side won by 15 runs to waltz straight through to the final, recording their first ever win over the Titans in the process.

CSK won eight of their regular season matches but appear to be peaking at the right time after a mid-season wobble, winning four of their past five matches.

What's the team news?

Gujarat Titans have no new injury or availability news. The defending champions could once again turn to Josh Little as their impact sub after he returned tidy figures of 1 for 27 against Mumbai Indians and bagged the big wicket of Cameron Green.

Sai Sudharsan was retired out in the penultimate over of the Titans' clash against Mumbai Indians, with his 138.71 strike rate not cutting the mustard. Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan went on to smash 19 runs off the final over, so don't expect the Titans management to shy away from making a similar decision on Sunday.

As for CSK, there were concerns for Deepak Chahar's fitness after he appeared to pull up with a leg injury after taking a one-handed catch off the final ball in the eliminator. However, he assured everyone he was fine in his post-match interview.

What's the key matchup?

Two words: Shubman Gill. The Titans opener has been in devastatingly good form in the 2023 IPL, scoring a competition-leading 851 runs at a strike rate of 156.43, including three centuries and four half-centuries.

His three centuries have come in his past four matches but the one time he failed to reach three figures was against CSK in the eliminator. It's also the only one of those four matches that the Titans didn't win, and it's telling that in all four of his side's group stage defeats, he failed to pass fifty: 6 (9) against Mumbai Indians, 6 (7) against Delhi Capitals, 45 (34) against Rajasthan Royals, and 39 (31) against KKR.

Of course, he has taken CSK's bowlers to task already this season, smashing 63 runs off 36 balls in the season opener, but they kept him on a short leash in the eliminator, restricting him to a strike rate of 110.52.

If they can keep him quiet, that should make their task a lot more manageable.

Head-to-head record

Matches played: 4

Chennai Super Kings wins: 1

Gujarat Titans wins: 3
