What’s the match?

Delhi Capitals meet Chennai Super Kings in the 2021 Indian Premier League.

When is it taking place?

The game is scheduled for 6pm UAE (3pm BST, 7.30pm IST) on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Where is the match being played?

The two sides will meet at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

Who’s got the form?

First takes on second in Dubai, with Chennai Super Kings ahead of Delhi Capitals on net run rate alone. The winner of this clash will, therefore, head into the final round of fixtures with a two-point cushion over second place.

MS Dhoni's CSK have enjoyed their time in the UAE, winning four of their five matches. However, they were defeated in their most recent outing, losing by seven wickets to Rajasthan Royals. In a high-scoring match, CSK failed to defend 189 as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube punished their bowling attack.

Delhi Capitals have also shown strong form in the second half of the tournament, winning three of their four matches in the UAE. Unlike CSK, the Capitals head into this top of the table clash with winning momentum after defeating Mumbai Indians by four wickets.

In the reverse fixture, Delhi Capitals won by seven wickets after a 54-ball 85 from Shikhar Dhawan helped them chase down 188 with eight balls to spare.

What are the odds?

Dafabet have installed Chennai Super Kings as narrow favourites to win this match, with MS Dhoni's side available at 5/4. Delhi Capitals are evens to win.

The bookies have backed Shikhar Dhawan to top-score for Delhi, offering odds of 23/10, while Ruturaj Gaikwad is available at 21/10 to lead the way for Chennai.

Who are the ones to watch?

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in majestic form with the bat for Chennai Super Kings. Since the tournament restarted in the UAE, the 24-year-old has scored 88 not out, 38, 40, 45 and 101 not out, the latter knock against Rajasthan Royals coming off just 60 balls. Catapulting himself to the top of the orange cap standings, Gaikwad has scored 508 runs, including one century and three half-centuries, at a strike rate of 140.33 - one of only two CSK players, alongside Faf du Plessis, to pass 300 runs. Gaikwad, ranked 246th on the T20 Player Index, has carried his team to the top of the table and will be the crucial wicket for Delhi.

If he's included in the XI, also keep an eye on Sam Curran. The Englishman enjoyed a productive first half of the IPL, taking nine wickets in seven matches. However, in his two appearances in the UAE, Curran has recorded figures of 0 for 56 and 0 for 55. Will he get another chance to rediscover his form?

For Delhi Capitals, Avesh Khan has been their best player in their past two matches. The 24-year-old pacer, who prior to this season had just five IPL wickets to his name, returned figures of 3 for 13 and 3 for 15 against KKR and Mumbai Indians, respectively, and now has 21 wickets and an economy of 7.00 from his 45 overs.

With the bat, Shimron Hetmyer is showcasing his big-hitting credentials. The West Indian has scored 131 at a strike rate of 187.14 for Delhi, including 12 fours and six sixes.

What's the team news?

Privthi Shaw returned from injury to open to the batting for Delhi against Mumbai Indians but Marcus Stoinis (hamstring) remains a doubt. The Capitals are unlikely to change their winning XI.

Sam Curran and pacer KM Asif were included in CSK's XI to face Rajasthan Royals. Both will likely resume water carrier duties for this crunch match with Delhi, with Dwayne Bravo and Deepak Chahar returning to the fold.

What's the head to head record?

The two teams have played each other 24 times.

Chennai Super Kings wins: 15

Delhi Capitals wins: 9

What's the weather forecast?

Cloudy conditions should provide the players with respite from the sun but it will make little difference to the sweltering temperatures. Highs of 35 degrees Celsius are forecast.
