Chennai Super Kings take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 23rd match of the 2021 IPL.
The game is scheduled for 7.30pm IST (3pm BST) on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium is hosting its first game of the competition.
CSK are on their best run in the IPL since the start of the 2019 campaign. They have won in a row and seven of the last eight across the last two editions. Top of the table after five games, they are the earlier favourites for the title.
Victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore was one of the best all-round performances of the tournament so far and with their star names hitting form ahead of the middle portion of the group phase they look primed for a deep run.
Sunrisers are at the opposite end of the scale, bottom of the table after a single win from their first five matches. Granted, things could have gone differently in the super over loss to Delhi Capitals but even their sole victory over Punjab Kings has a tinge of fortune about it, after their opponents were bowled out for a pitiful 120.
Dafabet have installed CSK as big favourites to land a fifth win in a row, offering odds of 8/11. SRH are meanwhile 11/10 to claim their second success.
However, Sunrisers pair Warner and Jonny Bairstow are 17/20 to put on the biggest opening partnership in the match, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis evens to eclipse them.
The South African opener can meanwhile be backed at 12/5 to be CSK's top scorer in the contest, with Kane Williamson is available at 14/5 to lead the Sunrisers innings.
Ambati Rayudu is one of the few CSK players yet to hit top form, having failed to pass 27 in a single innings during the opening five games. There remains plenty of room for improvement, particularly given his lowly position at No.174 in the men's T20 Player Index.
There is ample attention on the Sunrisers middle-order too, with all eyes on Virat Singh after his 14-ball four in the super over loss to Capitals. Captain David Warner is clearly not convinced by the decision to install Singh and he must start delivering to ensure no unnecessary friction is created between the Aussie and the SRH hierachy.
For vastly different reasons, both sides are likely to remain unchanged.
This is the first game in Delhi and while conditions are likely to assist spin, it remains to be seen how it plays early on.
That should mean Imran Tahir and Sam Curran hold off pressure from Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner or Karn Sharma. Nevertheless, CSK remain one of the few sides to be affected by an injury or Covid-related withdrawal.
Sunrisers are a different dilemma facing them. Their overseas top three will almost certainly be retained given the pressure on them to score the runs, while Rashid Khan picks himself.
Manish Pandey started the competition well but has lost his place, perhaps unfairly, and is likely to have a watching brief. T Natarajan has left the squad to have knee surgery and is out of the rest of the tournament.
The two teams have played each other 14 times.
Chennai Super Kings wins: 10
Sunrisers Hyderabad wins: 4
A clear evening with temperatures hitting 36 degrees Celcius means the match should be uninterrupted for the first match in Delhi.
No, this match will be played behind closed doors owing to the Covid-19 situation in India.
CSK are the form side in the competition right now and they'll surely extend that run against the weakest side in the tournament. Sunrisers are in for a long evening.
