The Cricketer runs through all the details you need to know ahead of the IPL auction, which takes place between November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The player auction for the 2025 Indian Premier League, the 18th edition of the competition, will be held on November 24 and 25, 2024, at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
For a fourth campaign in a row, there will be 10 IPL teams: Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings.
A total of 1,574 players are understood to have submitted themselves for the auction, of which 1,165 are Indian, while the other 409 are from overseas. That group has been reduced to 574 , comprising 366 Indians, 208 overseas players and three from associate nations.
As is the case every three years, the mega auction gives sides a chance to refresh their squads after a small number of retentions were confirmed on October 31.

Players who have registered for the auction are placed into three categories – Indian capped, Indian uncapped, and overseas players, and then grouped again for the auction itself based on their chief role in the team.
The process sees players enter the auction at a base price and teams take turns submitting offers until no further bids are forthcoming.
Unsold players can re-enter the draft during the final rounds should the franchises submit a request for their re-submission.
Right-to-match options give teams an opportunity to bring back players previously released from their 2024 squad if they match the highest bid in the auction.

Eighty-three players have entered themselves into the top bracket for the auction.
The overseas group is led by Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer and Nathan Lyon who are each priced themselves in the top band. But it is largely a category dominated by Indian players, with Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammad Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal the outstanding names available.
All players prices at 2 crore: Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Harry Brook, Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aiden Markram, Devdutt Padikkal, David Warner, R Ashwin, Venkatesh Iyer, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel, Marcus Stoinis, Jonny Bairstow, Quinton de Kock, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ishan Kishan, Phil Salt, Khaleel Ahmed, Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, T Natarajan, Anreich Nortje, Noor Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Adam Zampa, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Phillips, Kane Williamson, Sam Curran, Daryll Mitchell, Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Josh Inglis, Deepak Chahar, Lockie Ferguson, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Mujeeb-ur Rahman, Adil Rashid, Finn Allen, Ben Duckett, Rilee Rossouw, James Vince, Moeen Ali, Tim David, Will Jacks, Tom Banton, Spencer Johnson, Mustafizur Rahman, Naveen ul Haq, Umesh Yadav, Tabraiz Shamsi, Evin Lewis, Steve Smith, Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran, Mitchell Santner, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Alzarri Joseph, Matt Henry, Rassie van der Dussen, Sean Abbott, Adam Milne, Jason Holder, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills
As many as 52 England-qualified players entered the auction, many of whom are seeking their first contracts in the competitions, with that figure whittled down to 37.
There is no Ben Stokes or Joe Root, who have passed up the opportunity to enter. Their decision follows the BCCI introducing a regulation that any player who withdraws from the tournament after the auction will face a two-year IPL ban.
No English players were retained by their franchise after the retention deadline so a host of big names are bidding for contracts for the 2025 event.
That means Archer, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt and Harry Brook will all be competing for a berth.
Intriguingly, James Anderson, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, has entered himself bidding for a first IPL deal. Without a T20 appearance since 2014, England's all-time leading wicket-taker has registered a base price of INR 1.25 crore (approximately £114,000)
List of all England-qualified players registered for the 2025 IPL auction: Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow, Phil Salt, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Ben Duckett, James Vince, Moeen Ali, Will Jacks, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Jordan Cox, Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran, Ollie Pope, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley, Luke Wood, Leus du Plooy, Michael Pepper, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Olly Stone, Dan Worrall, Matthew Potts, John Turner, Dan Lawrence, James Anderson, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, David Payne, Benny Howell
The auction can be watched on the Star Sports Network or live-streamed on the Jio Cinema website and app. It is scheduled to begin at 12.30pm local time (9.30am GMT/3pm IST) on each day.
Unfortunately UK viewers cannot watch the IPL auction live. It has previously been shown on Sky Sports but the only way to watch is on Indian channels and streaming services. Find out how here.
