The absence of the wicketkeeper-batsman has considerable ramifications for Delhi, who are without an Indian option behind the stumps
Rishabh Pant will miss a week of Indian Premier League action after suffering a hamstring injury in Delhi Capitals’ victory over Rajasthan Royals on Friday.
The absence of the wicketkeeper-batsman has considerable ramifications for Ricky Ponting’s side, who are without an Indian option behind the stumps.
As a result, Alex Carey was brought in for Pant to take the gloves on Sunday for Delhi’s defeat against Mumbai Indians.
With IPL teams only able to field four overseas players in a playing eleven, Carey replaced Shimron Hetmyer, whose subsequent absence was collateral, with the Australian having to come in for one of the team’s foreign imports.
West Indies batsman Hetmyer, therefore, will likely miss Delhi’s return clash with Rajasthan on Wednesday, as well as their game against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, with Pant’s fitness issue likely to rule him out of both.
“I spoke to the doctor and he said he is going to be resting for a week,” Shreyas Iyer said of Pant. “Hope he comes back strongly after this break.”
