Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the whole of the Indian Premier League season through injury.
Chahar, who cost Chennai Super Kings £1.4million in the mega auction in February, sustained a back problem while in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He was making a recovery from a quad tear.
Chennai had previously been optimistic the seamer would be available to take part in the ongoing IPL season from the beginning of May.
Deepak Chahar is out for the entire IPL season
However, they now face an entire campaign without the man they had earmarked to be their primary powerplay weapon.
CSK, the defending champions, secured their first win of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore - in their fifth match of the 2022 term - on Tuesday.
They are next set to be in action against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
