AB de Villiers is planning a series of talks regarding a South Africa return for the T20 World Cup both during and after the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The 37-year-old's latest comments regarding his international aspirations followed a sparkling 76 not out for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders.

De Villiers' 34-ball knock included nine fours and three sixes and was yet another reminder of his undoubted value at this level.

Proteas coach Mark Boucher has made no secret of his desire to bring the right-hander back into the South Africa set-up.

Since confirming his retirement from representing his country in 2018, De Villiers has been a regular in T20 leagues across the world.

He offered to reverse the decision for the 50-over World Cup in 2019 but the proposal was rejected. But he now seems as close as ever to returning to the fold.

"I haven’t had a discussion with [Boucher] yet, but we are lined up to have a chat somewhere during the IPL," De Villiers said following the half-century.

"But, yes, we already talked about it last year. He (Boucher) asked me if I would be interested, and I said 'absolutely'.

"At the end of the IPL, we will have a look at where we are at with regards to my form, my fitness, and also the situation with his team.

"He has to get the best 15 together and look at the guys that have been performing well over the last while.

"If there is no space for me, so be it. If I can slot in there, it’ll be fantastic for all these things to fall in to place.

"I am waiting to hear from Bouch towards the end of the IPL, and we will plan accordingly."
