Tamim Iqbal will not be part of Bangladesh's T20 World Cup squad.

The experienced batsman has been out of action since suffering a knee injury during the Test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

In a video message on social media, he explained that he would not be available for his country's World Cup campaign, which begins in the preliminary round in Oman from October 17.

Tamim Iqbal is out of the T20 World Cup

''As I did not play in the last 15 to 20 T20 matches, and whoever replaced me, I don't think it would be fair on them if I take their place," he said.

''I just called board president [Nazmul Hasan] and chief selector [Minhajul Abedin] few minutes back and said that I don't think I should be playing in the World Cup and I am not available for it.

''I think gameplan is one of the biggest reasons, because I [have not been] playing this format for a long time and secondly [the knee] injury, but I don't think that is a big problem because I feel I will be okay before the World Cup."
