When the game was called off, it was agreed by Cricket Australia and the Afghanistan Cricket Board that the Test would be held at a later date
Australia will face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in November 2021, after the fixture – which was due to take place this year – was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak forced a change of plans, Australia were due to host Afghanistan in Perth between December 7 and December 11.
When the game was called off, along with a white-ball series against New Zealand scheduled for January, it was agreed by Cricket Australia and the Afghanistan Cricket Board that the Test would be held at a later date.
In September, Cricket Australia interim chief executive Nick Hockley said: “We all worked incredibly hard to make the series happen this summer, but the challenges around international travel and quarantine restrictions ultimately convinced all parties that the series would need to be played at a later date.”
Afghanistan have played four Tests since obtaining full ICC membership in 2017, beating both Ireland and Bangladesh and losing heavily against India and West Indies.
