Naveed Nawaz has been appointed assistant coach of Sri Lanka’s men’s team on a two-year contract.
The 48-year-old, who played one Test match and three ODIs for Sri Lanka during his playing career, previously served as head coach of Bangladesh Under-19s, steering the side to a three-wicket win over India in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup final.
Serving under new head coach, Chris Silverwood, Nawaz’s first series with the national side will be against Bangladesh in May.

Vaas made 439 appearances for Sri Lanka across all formats, taking 761 wickets, and has worked with the national side as a bowling coach at various points since retiring 2012.
Piyal Wijetunge will serve as spin bowling coach while Manoj Abeywickrama joins the set-up as a fielding and support coach.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two Tests against Bangladesh in May, with the first match due to begin on May 15.
