Shane Warne's state memorial service will be staged at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 30.

Fans will be able to buy tickets to attend or stream the service live.

Warne died last Friday (March 4) after suffering a suspected heart attack.

"There's nowhere in the world more appropriate to farewell Warnie than the 'G," said Premier of Victoria Dan Andrews.

"Victorians will be able to pay tribute to Shane and his contribution our state, and his sport, at a memorial service at the MCG on the evening of March 30.

"Info and tickets will be available soon."

Details, including the start time, will be confirmed in due course.

Warne's family accepted the offer of a state funeral, which is generally only granted to those of wider importance.

His body is expected to be flown back from the island of Koh Samui, Thailand, where he was staying when he passed away, on Thursday (March 10).

Among the biggest cricket stadiums in the world, fans and wellwishers have been leaving tributes to Warne underneath his statue outside the MCG since the death was announced.

He enjoyed 17 years playing for Victoria, who are based at the MCG, which also played host to some of his finest days in an Australia shirt.

It was the scene of his only Test hat-trick against England in December 1994, as he dismissed Phil DeFreitas, Darren Gough and Devon Malcolm in successive deliveries.

In addition to the service, it has already been confirmed that the Southern Stand will be renamed the SK Warne Stand in his honour.
