Mark Boucher is to step down as South Africa head coach after the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Boucher, who took on the role in December 2019, has a contract through until the end of the 2023 50-over World Cup in India but has told Cricket South Africa of his intention to walk away nearly 12 months early.

A statement from Cricket South Africa said Boucher's decision is "in order to pursue other opportunities in line with his future career and personal objectives".

Boucher has been linked with the head coach role at the new MI Cape Town franchise in the SA20 league, which is due to have its inaugural run in January and February.

CSA chief executive Pholetsi Moseki said: "We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has invested in South African cricket as the head coach over the past three years.

"He has helped navigate us through some rough waters following the departures of so many senior players through retirement and has helped lay some strong foundations for the next generation of Proteas."

Boucher has recently overseen a 2-1 series defeat at the hands of England, but has had plenty of success during his time in charge of the South African national team.

Under his guidance, the Proteas have won 11 Test matches, including a memorable series victory against India, as well as 12 ODIs and 23 T20Is.
