The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter left the field during the 23rd over of the second Test
Kusal Mendis is under observation in a hospital in Dhaka after leaving the field during Sri Lanka’s second Test against Bangladesh with chest pains.
An ECG has, however, come back without highlighting any issues, with the doctors suspecting "muscle spasms" or dehydration as the cause of the wicketkeeper-batter’s discomfort, according to Sri Lanka team manager Mahinda Halangoda.
Mendis flagged the issue during the 23rd over of Bangladesh’s first innings, lying down on the field before being attended to by Sri Lanka’s medical team. He left the fielding holding his chest shortly after.
He was replaced by Kamindu Mendis, who later dropped Liton Das on 47. Das went on to finish the day unbeaten on 135.
It is unclear how long Mendis will be in hospital for and if he will return to play any further part in the second Test.
Mendis scored 54 (131) and 48 (43) in the drawn first Test in Chattogram.
