England v Pakistan, second Test: TV times, streaming, weather, team news, odds and more

The Cricketer runs down the who, what, where, when, why, which channel and how wet will it be as the series moves to Southampton...

What is it?

England face Pakistan in the second of three Tests as the second half of the international red-ball summer continues.

When is it?

The Test starts on Thursday, August 13 at 11am (BST).

Where is it?

The game will be played at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, where the international summer began back in July.

Who’s playing?

England will be forced into at least one change from their three-wicket win in the first Test, after Ben Stokes was ruled out for the rest of the series.

The Durham allrounder will this week return to be with his family in New Zealand, where his father Ged has been recovering from a serious illness.

Joe Root is also without Dan Lawrence, who has left the camp due to a family bereavement.

The loss of the Essex batsman means that Zak Crawley is almost certain to regain his place, after missing the last two Tests. Inevitably, the configuration of the bowling attack is the other decision facing Root and head coach Chris Silverwood.

James Anderson has dismissed suggestions he is bound for retirement after a sub-standard display in the first Test at Emirates Old Trafford, but he could yet be rested. Stuart Broad may also be withdrawn to prevent him from playing in a fourth Test in five weeks.

Chris Woakes' match-winning heroics make him virtually undroppable. Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Mark Wood, and Ollie Robinson will compete for the remaining berths.

Pakistan may have fallen apart over the last two days of the first Test but they could be unchanged for the second Test. Fawad Alam awaits his international return and could provide more reliability to the batting line-up.

Captain Azhar Ali might also be tempted to tinker with the bowling attack. Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi were terrific in Manchester but it remains to be seen if they will be asked to play all three Tests.

England squad: Joe Root (c), James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, James Bracey, Ben Foakes, Jack Leach, Olie Robinson

Pakistan squad: Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Abid Ali, Asad Shafiq, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Imam ul Haq, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Sohail Khan, Usman Shinwari, Wahab Riaz, Yasir Shah

What’s the weather forecast?

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for the whole of England on Thursday, amid the threat of thunderstorms. Days two and three should be clear, with a combination of sunny and cloudy skies expected. But rain is expected during the final two days of the contest, which could threat a result.
