The ICC confirmed the development on Monday after what the governing body described as "a two-year process, in which the ICC worked closely with LA28"
Cricket will feature at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, subject to approval from the International Olympic Committee.
The ICC confirmed the news on Monday after what the governing body described as "a two-year process, in which the ICC worked closely with LA28".
"We are delighted that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics," said ICC chairman Greg Barclay.
"Whilst this is not the final decision, it is a very significant landmark towards seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century.
"I'd like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process over last two years and we look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session, in India, during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next week."
That meeting, which begins on Sunday, is set to take place in Mumbai.

Cricket last featured at the Olympic Games in 1900, but only as a single-match contest between Great Britain and France, who competed for a gold medal in Paris. Originally, Belgium and the Netherlands had been set to compete, but both withdrew. Plans for the sport to feature at the 1896 Athens Games were shelved due to a lack of entries.
Since then, it has been absent but returned to the Commonwealth Games schedule last summer for the 2022 edition, with a women's competition held in Birmingham, having only previously featured in 1998 – then as a men's competition in Kuala Lumpur.
But the MCC welcomed the move to add it to the Commonwealth calendar, hoping that it might lead to the sport's inclusion in Los Angeles. Cricket was added to the Asian Games in 2010.
