Colin de Grandhomme has retired from international cricket at the age of 36.

New Zealand allrounder De Grandhomme steps away from the Blackcaps setup after a career which has spanned more than a decade. He made 115 appearances for his country across formats.

De Grandhomme was on Sunday drafted by Adelaide Strikers for the Big Bash, which surprised New Zealand Cricket, and he has now opted to step away from the national side.

"I accept I'm not getting any younger and that the training is getting harder, particularly with the injuries," said de Grandhomme.

"I also have a growing family and am trying to understand what my future looks like post-cricket. All of this has been on my mind over the past few weeks.

"I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to play for the Blackcaps since debuting in 2012 and I'm proud of my international career - but I feel this is the right time to finish."

De Grandhomme won the World Test Championship with the Kiwis in 2021 and has reached multiple World Cup finals.

He intends to continue playing domestic cricket in New Zealand, where he is currently on the books of Northern Districts.

De Grandhomme's retirement is the second significant blow to the Blackcaps in two weeks, following Trent Boult's request to be released from his NZC central contract.

Boult cited a desire to spend more time with his family and the option to play more franchise cricket as the reasons for his decision.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said: "Colin's been a hugely influential part of the Black Caps and contributed to some of the team's greatest achievements.

"His immense power with the bat and skills with the ball made him a real match winner and an asset to any side.

"Colin's a great team-man and we will certainly miss his character around the dressing room. While it's sad to see him go - we appreciate he's at a stage in his career where he's looking to head in a different direction and we respect that.
