The format and dates were confirmed on Saturday (March 19) following the annual general meeting of the Asian Cricket Council in Colombo.
The Asia Cup, which began in 1984, has not been staged since 2018 because of logistical issues originating in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its timing in 2022 could have a knock-on effect to two major domestic competitions.
The Hundred runs until September 3, while the Caribbean Premier League is set to get under way from August 30.
Meanwhile, ACA members ratified a further two years of presidency for BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and Pankaj Khimji - the Oman Cricket president - was elected to the vice-presidency of the ACA.
