What is it?

Australia will be taking the Ashes back for the first time since 2001 after their 185-run victory at Old Trafford last week.

However, the result of the series is still up in the air as the sides head back to London for the fifth and final Ashes Test match at the Oval.

A win for England will see a first drawn Ashes series on English soil since 1972, but should Tim Paine's men follow up their success in Birmingham and Manchester with victory in south London that will see the visitors claim a 3-1 series win.

What's the schedule?

FIRST TEST: Edgbaston, Birmingham (Thursday, August 1 - Monday, August 5) - Australia won by 251 runs

SECOND TEST: Lord's, London (Wednesday, August 14 - Sunday, August 18) - Match drawn

THIRD TEST: Headingley, Leeds (Thursday, August 22 - Monday, August 26) - England won by one wicket

FOURTH TEST: Old Trafford, Manchester (Wednesday, September 4 - Sunday, September 8) - Australia won by 185 runs

FIFTH TEST: Kia Oval, London (Thursday, September 12 - Monday, September 16)

What are England's chances?

How much the emotions of the last two Test matches has taken out of Joe Root's side will likely determine the extent to which England can muster one final performance this summer.

The team was on an extreme high after Ben Stokes' heroics at Headingley, but commensurate brilliance from Steve Smith and the Australian bowling attack saw them keep hold of the Ashes before England had had time to gain momentum in Manchester.

Joe Root may not be tempted to discuss his future as captain, but a home Ashes series defeat will make that conversation with the hierarchy more difficult to resist, and will therefore need a performance from his side here.

The question of how to dismiss Steve Smith before he inflicts significant damage is still unanswered, while the middle order batsmen showed some signs of improvement, particularly Jos Buttler, without really imposing themselves.

However on the flip side, Stuart Broad continued his dominance against David Warner and will need to lead the attack once again if England are to level the series, which despite his form is currently an extreme low.

The hosts will also need more from Jofra Archer, who is no doubt feeling the effects of an exhaustive summer schedule in his maiden summer as an England player, but England will hope the changes that have been made will help in adding that required bite.

What if I fancy a bet?

Bookmakers Dafabet are backing Australia to confirm a series win at the Oval. Tim Paine's men are clear favourites at 19/20, while the hosts are available at 7/5. The draw is at 5/1.

Who's in and who's out?

England have named their side for the fifth Test at the Oval, and Joe Root and the England management have made two changes to the XI that lost in Manchester.

Jason Roy has been dropped after a torrid time with the bat in red-ball cricket, while Craig Overton also misses out after being brought in to the side at Old Trafford.

Sam Curran has finally been given an opportunity after featuring in all five England squads in the series, while Chris Woakes is brought back in after missing out in the fourth Test.

Ben Stokes is therefore likely to play as a specialist batsman given his shoulder problems, with Joe Denly likely to continue at the top of the order.

England team: Joe Denly, Rory Burns, Joe Root (c), Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach

What about Australia?

Tim Paine and Australia may have retained the Ashes, but the message this week, particularly from coach Justin Langer, is their desire to address the unfinished business and win a first Ashes series in England since 2001.

Steve Smith's reintroduction at Old Trafford was pivotal to Australia's success, while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood's bowling partnership demonstrated why it is one of the most feared around. The trio will once again likely be the matchwinners if their side do emerge victorious.

However, David Warner's form has been somewhat alarming aside from his first-innings 61 at Headingley, while Nathan Lyon will have to continue through the pain after suffering a cut on his spinning finger in Manchester.

Nevertheless, the aforementioned duo will keep their places, but the same cannot be said for Travis Head, who has been dropped in favour of allrounder Mitchell Marsh.

James Pattinson has not been considered in the 12, while Peter Siddle has a chance of replacing one of Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood or Cummins.

Australia squad: Tim Paine (c, wk), Pat Cummins, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner

What will the weather be like?

After the rain disruptions at Headingley and Old Trafford, it appears that weather woes are well and truly in the past for this Test series, with an excellent outlook for all five days.

It could be a cloudy day one, but afterwards the Oval should bask in glorious sunshine for the majority of the remainder of the Test match, with temperature highs of 23 degrees Celsius expected on Sunday.

How can I follow it?

The games will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Cricket (Sky 404, Virgin 504, TalkTalk 405) in the UK, while radio commentary will be provided by Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra (DAB, online via the BBC Sport website and through the BBC Sounds app).
