Non-host counties must be given the latitude to pursue a T20 alternative to The Hundred

HUW TURBERVILL: As the foundations of the sport continue to shift, the 11 first-class counties on the periphery should be allowed to prosper - even if that means forming a rival competition

And reduce t20 Blast to make space for a 50 over competition? Would Yorkshire wish/be allowed to join (they don't have a share in a Hundred team). I don’t know how close a Hundred team will be to the host county team.

With effective marketing, will. this boost non-host counties? Would Yorkshire wish/be allowed to take part (they don't own a Hundred team)? Reduce t20 Blast games and make room for a 50 over competition?

This is the first article that I have seen advocating a breakaway! I have been for ages to my mini audience. The unwanted counties have been very timid (including my beloved Sussex who raised not a whimper when shafted by the ECB over Tier 1 women's cricket). I think they have more leverage than they think but they need to act in unison. An August T20 might be a start but, once they have banked the 20 pieces of silver, why don't they all just walk?

It would need careful marketing. Yorkshire don't have a Hundred team: would they wish/be allowed to join? Reduce t20 Blast to make room for a 50 over competition?

Middlesex are not a "host county", but they play most of their games at a "host" ground. None of their other grounds can accommodate a large crowd (although they earn more there than at Lord's). They would have to investigate the suitability of Wembley and Twickenham. (Stratford would not be available in August).
